April, 06 marked the first year anniversary in which I setup my fotopic homepage. Looking back at my logging here, I have indeed traveled a long way. Photography helps me in seeing things better, however I am no less confuse than I was when I just started. You can get better and better at the skills and techniques but when it boils down to the main question of what makes a good image, there痴 no definite answer.

 | 24th Sep 2006 | 夏末初秋
當夏天再次告別﹔
悄悄然得迎來秋意。
感謝yuenchin 的配合。
Dear friends, I am moving to a new home at http://limsingking.multiply.com. Do drop by. It makes no sense to maintain two sites and therefore, eventually I may abandon my fotopic homepage.

 | 22nd Jul 2006 | Butterfly : First Encounter
My first attempt at shooting macro and butterfly. Shooting macro requires a lot of patience which I don't have. I have learnt that butterfly never stay still and now that I knew, next thing is to learn how to sneak that can of epoxy spray pass the butterfly farm's security.

 | 26th Jun 2006 | Joey: vogue
Joey said she prefers the pic that she痴 not smiling. Nay, I disagree. Still feel she looks best with her smile. For this series, we go for the no-smile approach. An all black dress plus accessories with the bathroom lighting set us up for a spurred and passionate session. Feel that we should have go for the wet bathtub scene but Joey was conscious bout her makeup and dress.

 | 26th Jun 2006 | Smile, Joey, smile
Joey has one helluva smile coz she has those darlie-advertisement-like teeth. For most of the time, I would not want to snap anything else than her teeth. One problem though is that she played hard to get with those smiles. Rather spontaneous and abrupt, it can be a frustrating exercise trying to time the exposure. But once a while, when someone cracked a joke, a lift of her brow might just indicate what痴 coming up next.

 | 21st Jun 2006 | Regina
Despite us having met only once before the photoshoot, we kinda connected well; as a photographer and his model. Regina has been excellente and a naturalle. Not really aiming for more colour in this collection; I mainly resort to the basic colour pallete of RGB (red, green and blue).

 | 18th May 2006 | Han-Tang Dynasty Classical Dance
Was informed last minuted by a friend about this dance in Dewan Sri Pinang. It was performed by a group of dancers from beijing who were invited by a local chinese society. Overall the performance was great and not less the presentation and music. Since the best spot was taken by the VIPs that evening, we have to resort to the staircase. Wasn't the most comfortable seat but none the less we had an entertaining night.

 | 1st May 2006 | Alicia
"Sunny and cheerful" chirped Alicia when asked what theme she prefered. On the morning of the photoshoot however, the sky turned grey and started to rain soon after. And so, there goes our theme for that day. After 1 hour sheltering under the botanical garden kopitiam, the sky cleared up and we decided to continue. Without a theme, the session progressed slowly but when Alicia started to get the hang out of it, there's just no stopping her.

 | 24th Apr 2006 | Penang Hill: 2 cable car rides, a bungalow and 30 hikers
I have been to Penang Hill numerous time. Mainly it was a morning hike up, take some breakfast there and hike the way back down; a good weekend exercise. On this weekend however, a bunch of travel enthusiasts organized a bungalow stay on the hill. Most of us shared the same interest of travelling, photographing and enjoying quality time together. In all, it was a great outing and I get to known 30 wonderful hiking mates. Many thanks to Soek Kiau for organising this wonderful outing.

 | 16th Apr 2006 | From The Jetty: A Pictorial
The 釘oa: Naturelle photobook that I picked up from Singapore gave me a whole new concept of photography. I love those shot that look so casually taken and yet behold such magical feel. And with Boa in it, it makes a whole lot of a different. Inspired, I took a very different approach in this particular morning. It started with yet another not so successful sunrise shoot but when I walked the plank on this jetty, the pages unfold and it quickly progressed into a different chapter.

 | 10th Apr 2006 | Dawn; rise like the sun
It has been raining during the nights in the past weekend. With clouds hovering the horizon at dawn, it normally promises some good sunrise. And true enough, for two days, the sunrise in Penang was simply breathtaking. I only managed a few good shots the first day coz the sun rose at such blistering rate; I swear it was at least 5 degree per every minute. Before I done 5 pics, the sun was already so high that I risked blinding myself making every shot. And so I went back the next day. This is why photography is so fun. It challenges you in every other possible ways; persistency and patience along with technical proficiency and creativity. It's something you can't outgrow. The more you learn, the more you'll uncover how much you haven't learn.

 | 25th Feb 2006 | Asian Aerospace 06: 'Haley'copter
Travelled to Singapore to catch the aerospace which reportedly to be the last held in Singapore. The biannual event will be moved to hongkong to take aim at the China ongrowing market. Went there with high expectation of catching some fighter jets in action but the singaporean rules to keep the flying jet at a safe distant from the spectators during the airshow means that the F15 captured with my longest lens only appears slightly larger than the dust on my CCD. Lucky though, Haley's photoshoot and the Boa's photobook that I picked up from Kinokuniya somehow make the trip worthwhile. For the Malaysians, forget bout Asian Aero, LIMA is much better.

 | 19th Feb 2006 | Bridal/Fashion Show: Gurney
I woke up on one fine morning to find my laptop failed to recognised my hdd. I was halfway through compiling my photo in this collection then and therefore, these few pics are the only survivors that I have managed to upload before my hdd crashed. Lucky though I have backup those from my previous collections. Look like it's true when people said that there is no question whether your laptop hdd will ever crash, it's just a matter of when. So guys, do backup your stuff.

 | 15th Jan 2006 | Maiyoko san
Lighting was poor and therefore in many occasions needed to remind Angeline to stay still (mai yok in cantonese), thus earning her the japanese nick of Maiyoko san. Lack of makeup artist and props, it is hard to get things to click in this session.

 | 2nd Jan 2006 | BrrrrA white Christmas
Mum called two weeks before Christmas. She and her friends suddenly had this idea to go Harbin during the Christmas week and asked me to join them. And so two chaotic weeks later I found myself in Harbin with a tour of 40 people. Going on a tour is another option to independent traveling if you don稚 have time to plan for your own trip. Well it痴 true that they bring you to tourist shops with rip-off prices and they rushed you from places to places but that痴 part of the deal. Set a realistic expectation for a tour guided trip and you can be enjoying a leisure trip. And so, I just tagged along with my mum and sis; enjoyed being ushered around, ate what is served and went where they brought me to.
For highlights, there were those unforgettable moments of eating 澱ing1 tang2 hu2 lu2 out on the street in the -40 degree C temperature, the spectacular view of the misty song hua river and the head-over-the-heel plunge down the skiing slope. Not to mention, the muted New Year countdown 30000 feet above Vietnam added sentiments to the trip.

 | 20th Dec 2005 | Angeline: Eyes On You
For most of my photoshoot, I prefer to take the subject without having them looking into the camera so as the presence of the photographer is not felt. However, shooting Angeline is different. With eyes like those, it hard not to go for those frontal close up shot.

Will put in my comments once I figure out how to print chinese character on fotopic.

 | 3rd Dec 2005 | Eclipse
Selina; a big sister among her friends. Dogmatic at times, but always with a big personality.

 | 26th Nov 2005 | Pink
Delivered my assignment and my friend seems to be happy with it. I will leave it to her to compile the pics to her own liking.
Meanwhile, I pick out a handful and compile them with the theme pink! Joanne is a typical sweetie. She is like the girl-next-door every schoolboy dreams to fell for. Pink will definately goes well for her.
